My husband talked to his doctor about how to quit dipping (it's all nicotine, just a different form than smoking).

His doctor put him on Wellbutrin for a couple of weeks - long enough for it to acclimate into his system - and then DH had to set a quit date. I don't remember if they did the "step down" method, which is where you progressively use less and less, but at the end of the 6-8 weeks, DH had stopped using nicotine.

There are many many alternatives out there. I'd talk to your doctor and let him get a "feel" for what would be best for you. For instance, cold turkey will work for some, but not for others. That's why talking to a medical professional can help you find the right way for you.

Also, there's a new product on the market (I can't remember the name now), but it's the newest pill to assist with smoking cessation. As I recall, it takes about 12 weeks, but their clinical trials showed excellent results. Bring this up with your doc too - if he doesn't know about it yet, I'm sure he'll look into it.

Good luck - this will be one of the best things you'll ever do for yourself!

The main ingredient to quiting smoking is MINDSET. I quit smoking about 12 years ago after having smoked for 20 years. I set a date a month in advance to quit. During that month I smoked myself to death thinking about it, and before that date came I was wanting to quit early..........but I wouldn't let myself until that specific date came. When it finally came I was more than ready. I quit with a mindset that I was done. Period. No more smoking, and no excuses or debates. And no, "I wish I had a cigarette", or "That cigarette smells so good". I wouldn't allow myself those thoughts. I was done smoking, no questions. Make no mistake...........quiting smoking is never easy. But you can make it easier on yourself just by getting that mindset and not allowing yourself to let your mind falter on it. Another big thing............even though I never crave them anymore, and haven't for a very long time, I KNOW...........and I'll ALWAYS KNOW.............that if I take that ONE cigarette, I'll be right back on them. I have not had one cigarette since the day I quit 12 years ago. And I am so happy that I am a non-smoker. One more note...........no matter what way you decide to quit smoking, the key ingredients are still mindset, and don't take that ONE cigarette.......ever. Good luck! :)

I have never smoked but I think this may work!

Put all your ash and butts into a jar and add water then replace the lid.
Continue doing this for a few days.

Then set yourself a goal of x amount of ciggies a day.
When you feel the need for a ciggy open this jar and inhale the smell.
(This should make you feel sick-it would with me)

Then pick up a ciggy and put in mouth.
Hopefully the smell from the jar will turn you off ciggies.
I sincerely hope this helps. Good luck!
