Many things. It could be you are getting over an illness and your immune system is down. You may have a hang-over. You may be dehydrated or you may have thrush. Brush your teeth well, drink plenty of water, eat fresh, citrus fruit and plain yoghurt. Give it 3 days and if it hasn't cleared, then go see your GP / Dr for advice. It could be an indicator of other conditions.

Is it dark?
Black tongue refers to a number of conditions cause the tongue to go dark. Black hairy tongue in humans is a harmless condition caused by a fungus which grows on the top surface of the tongue. It is associated with the elderly, as well as with antibiotic use. It is more commonly seen in smokers. The tongue and teeth can also turn black after the use of Pepto Bismol tablets, but this is because of the reaction between the intestinal secretions and the bismuth found in the drug rather than the fungus which causes BHT. It can also be due to a niacin deficiency.
Personally I would see a doctor just to rule out other causes.

The tongue is the best indicator of how the healthy the diet is.
If you've got a furry one, it is because you are not eating correctly. Change your eating habits, drink more water and avoid Aspartame.

Sounds like it could be a furry tongue, as opposed to one in fury.
Do you smoke?
