There is just no exceuse.

I am a single Father, and I can tell you of the pains that it can entail. However, even though my ex-wife had an afair, abandon us for weeks at a time, and ended up putting me through hell with the courts and a custody battle, I would NEVER, EVER trade being the best Dad I can be to my Son.

Problem is it takes SO much effort, and some men just either don't have that in them, or don't care.

I don't know enough about your "Dad" but it sounds like he suffors from both.

My advice? Let him be, and commit yourself to being the best person you can.

For me, letting go of the pain, anger, betrayal she caused, as well as missed time with my Son was the toughest part of all.

You see, in the end, you can only control how you feel, and how you act. That's it.

So the question really becomes, will you let it change you want to be, and whom you wish to become?

Take comfort in the good things in your life, and the rest will settle as it should.

Good luck!

Ouch! I can tell you as a second wife that I can now understand why fathers give up. The rights of the mom rule supreme regardless of the best interests of the child. Sometimes the constant fighting for basic rights just to see your kid regularly and not have them brainwashed against you are just too much for some dads to bear.

Oooh. I too have a screwed up father. He would take every dime I ever made - even cash gifts from family that they sent for birthdays and other holidays.
He made me sit in front of WalMart and sell off most all of my personal belongings (humiliating), then took all the money I made - almost $400. His reasoning was that he put a roof over my head. Did you tell your mom he took the dishes? Maybe she can help you out. Sorry you're stuck with your Dad for the time being. If you're over 18 you could sue him for your property.
