I'd still start out by taking him to the vet - just to rule out other possibilities. Two of my 3 dogs suffer from allergies. I have since switched them to a fish based food. I asked around to other dog owners and my vet and all suggested this. They are currently on Nature's Recipe Fish and Potato. They've been on it for about a month now and so far no "breakouts". Most dogs who suffer from food allergies are allergic to the wheat, beef, and / or by products in the food. Also, when you give him baths, use a gentle oatmeal shampoo and use cool water. This will help soothe the itching. For temporary relief, you may give him benadryl. I buy the childrens and cover the tablets in peanut butter.
Hope his itchies go away soon. Good luck!

Was he diagnosed with allergies? Some dogs chew on their feet because they are bored, believe it or not.
Call the vet and see what he says. If it's not all the time and he's not licking and chewing them until they are raw, then it might not be allergies.
When he starts chewing, try playing with him or taking him out for a walk. Try to notice when he's doing it. He can be doing it simply because there's nothing else to do.

It is a serious problem. he can chew through the pads of his paws. The vet will give him a quick cortisone shot and some antihistimine pills and the dog will be able to SLEEP at night, instead of licking incessantly.

This is an excellent product. Read the 'letters'..and they are genuine> http://springtimeinc.com/product/88/2
Meanwhile elimminate Corn, Soy , Food coloring, and Wheat from your dog's diet.
This is a symptom of canine Atopy.. This is a good site to help you understand and deal with this condition..

At this season, it is likely to be pollen related or mold/mildew..But household cleaners often aggravate the condition..chemicals such as Swiffer Wet jet, Carpet cleaners, air fresheners, etc..

Quick term, the one thing you are able to do is take antihistamines. Over the counter in the U.S. Is Loratadine 10mg - take one per day. Benadryl motives quite a few drowsiness, so it is ok in case you take it at bedtime. Steer clear of the Guinea pigs if viable. Wash your hands after dealing with them, so you do not rub the allergen from the fur in your eyes. Long run, that you would be able to get shots from an allergic reaction doc to desensitize you. I do not think playing with the GP on weekends goes to desensitize you. Just right luck

i have given my dog medicaine that i take, penicillan and asprin and it seems to help them, and i have had them for 10 years so nothing will happen to your dog but I would dose them like a baby, maybe some allergie meds that you would give a child? of course if you worry about that idea, than call your vet.
good luck
