I have found that a 12-gauge double barreled shotgun always works well as a repellant for all creatures great and small.

The product is called Bitter Apple & it does work with some cats, but not all. There are several other pet repellents out there that do work with some, but again, not all. It might be worth a shot for you. Securing the tree is easy - there are millions of cat owners with holiday trees. I just secure the lower ornaments a little tighter & use a little repellant. They lose interest pretty quick. For me, I think the key is that I have plenty of stuff that's more interesting to them than the tree. Make sure you have a good, tall scratching post they can sharpen on & climb on. You should have that anyway. Good luck!
Dude, that thing about the paint balls? Hysterical! You should go into stand up comedy. Seriously! I can't believe how funny that is. I'm so glad you actually took the time to type that for all of us to see. You truly are a genius. Ha! Paint balls! LOL!

Sprinkle catnip allover a scratching post and put it some where....
The tree is something new and intresting....
Something new and interesting that smells REALY REALY REALY nice is far more intresting than a tree.... lol
Also live trees cats get into more than fake ones.... so if you have a cat... get a fake tree and tie it to something so it don't fall over if the cats DO attack it.
I find passive stuff or rewards work better for cats than punishiment.....
HOWEVER
if you wana go the way of getting the cat away.... get a watter gun... squirt the cat every time it touches the tree......
the cat won't be happy... but it will stay away from the tree.

When I still set up Christmas trees, I found the easiest solution was to place the tree under a plant hook in the ceiling, then tie the tree to the plant hook. This at least stabilized the tree so the cat couldn't knock it over. I also kept a mister bottle near me, so that I could give her a squirt whenever I caught her trying to climb it, play with the ornaments.

I don't know about any sprays, but I like to place my Chirstmas tree in the corner of a room or near a doorway, and wire it to the wall (wrap the wire around the trunk, then secure it to the doorway on opposite sides of the tree). I started doing this after my cats knocked down my tree a few times, and it works great!

Some say those cat-away sprays that the pet stores sell are useless. Some people say they've worked. I think you should find something your cat hates and use that. MY cats HATE the smell of mint. All I have to do is put something minty where I don't want the cats to be and they stay away. Put some minty toothpaste on your finger and see how your cat reacts to it. Some kitties like mint, but not mine! Give it a try - maybe some minty mouthwash. You can get minty breath sprays that may do the trick if your cats hate it!! Best of luck to you, and happy holidays!

Citrus spray. Cats dont like citrus. Or keep fresh orange peels under the tree. I have 2 very frisky brother cats. They knocked down the tree just a couple days ago..part of it was the tree stand...but I got this citrus air fresher & happened to spray it by the tree & walla....kitty sniffs...go's the other way...

Friend - If you can find it there is a spray called Kitty No No. I am not sure of its ingredients, but its safe around small children so I expect its okay. It smells like bandaids...and you do have to reapply it often. I have tried everything else and this has been the only thing that worked for me. I have had trees completely crash when kitty decided to climb to the very top....aaaccckkk!!!! GB

I don't know a lot about cats, but a friend of mine had this bulldog with major bowel issues. He found this product called Nature's Miracle, which completely neutralized smells. He swore by the stuff. Anyway, they have this whole line with products for cats and dogs. They might make something for Christmas trees too.

Those sprays are a waste of time. I got some options for you.
1. control your cat or get rid of the cat!
2. dont use a tree
3 get a dog
4. make a chilli pepper spray and spray that near the tree (cat won't go near it)
5 spray the cat with the pepper spray.
Good luck

With my cat last year he was always playing with it. It was a pain in the *** because the floor under the tree is hardwood, even though the tree skirt would brake the fall some of the class ones would still brake from him playing with it.
This year we got a train to go under the tree. the cat is to interested in the train to mess with the tree. We haven't had any problems yet.
