I was with Geico and switched to Progressive and my monthly payments were WAY cheaper. Plus, you can do eveything on-line and there is instant approval and you can just print off your temp insurance cards

RE :I need affordable insurance on my car any suggestions?
well i've been driving around for 9 months now w/out insurance. my car's a 2001 dodge neon standard model and i paid cash for it (no car note). im afraid that if im pulled over by the chp my car will get towed. im on a budget and i really need an affordable monthly premium. im 28 yrs old i got my driving license at 26 yrs old then got 2 tickets like 2 months later. one ticket was a failure to yield on a right turn w/ a red light and as a result i caused an accident but there was no bodily harm or property damage to the other driver only to my car it was totaled and i wasn't harmed. i recently was pulled over and given a speeding ticket too. what is the difference in full vs. liability insurance? i do know that liability is cheaper. which should i consider? also does anyone know of any insurance co. that don't require a huge down payment to start?and would insure my car w/out a huge monthly premium?

Part of the responsibility for driving is to obey the laws, both as regards the rules of the road and the requirement for mandatory insurance. Now, with that out of the way, let's see about answering your questions.
Liability insurance only covers what you damage with your car. If you run into someone, either their vehicle or other property like their house, fence, or tree causing damage, your insurance pays them the value of the damaged property. Your damage is yours, and you will pay for that out of pocket. It also won't cover you if your car is stolen, burns up in a fire, gets submerged in a flood or is struck by lightning. Full coverage on the other hand DOES cover your car in those scenarios. You can choose full coverage with or without deductible, and the price varies accordingly. That would mean they would pay but only after the deducible amount. That can be $250, $500 or $1,000 deductible.
Next question, what will they charge you, and will you need a large down payment? Well, probably, but I don't know. There are a lot of factors they take into consideration to set your risk level and rates. It's an older car, but they will want to know mileage, what your intended use is, where it's parked at night, how many miles a year you put on it, your driving history, and your credit report.
One of the first things they will ask is "Do you currently have insurance" and when you say no, that will move you toward high risk right there. When they see 3 tickets, all for moving offenses, and a recent speeding ticket, plus one accident claim against you, you go up on the scale again toward high risk.
To be very honest, you will probably be high risk and pay a lot to begin with, but you can lower that by not getting any more tickets. With one that old, I wouldn't get collision or full coverage, but just whatever your state minimum is, with perhaps a little uninsured to protect you from people like you driving without insurance.
Remember, the cost for being legal will be less than the cost when you get the ticket, get your car towed, and then have to get insurance to get it back anyway, so you will have even more cost.
Find an independent agent that isn't tied to any one company, and work with him to get what's best for you.
I wish you luck, and wish you well.

depending on your state, you can lose your license, your car can be impounded or you can be arrested for not having insurance.
Try Geico and Progressive...you need to get insurance.
The fact that you have a lapse in coverage is going to make it even harder to find someone to cover you.
Good luck
