I've just received a pool table and it needs to be re-felted. I'm interested to do this on my own, but I don't know the trick to removing the bumpers so that they, and the slate, can have new felt put on. Is there a way to do this that is standard for most/all pool tables?

under the rails there are three bolts, not all tables are the same,if it is a bar table then remove the metal strip on the side and under there you will see the attachment system .....if it is a non-slate table then dont even bother ..most of those are designed to last ten years or so then trashed......

you got some good partial answers here but nothing beats a polite truthful conversation with a pro find someone who does that for a living and they will most likely tell you just what you need to know about all the tricks.... they have probably even done a table just like the one you have. Most are so busy that the loss of doing one table will not bankrupt them and you get 25-30 years of benefits good luck and good breaks when you get done
