It wasn't a dish; it was a pickled Tabasco pepper, and I was 6 years old. My dad, who thought it was funny, told me it was a cucumber pickle, which at the time I liked. I bit into it and my god I thought I was going to die. Worse yet, my eyes watered and my nose ran and I tried wiping them with the fingers that had held the pepper, so my nose and eyes started burning too. Since then I've avoided hot foods like the plague.
I was at a Chinese place one time when a friend dared another friend, who didn't know any better, to take a bite of one of those little dark peppers that's in Kung Pao chicken. I have never before seen a grown man in his forties stand bolt upright and scream "WATER! I NEED WATER! I NEED WATER NOWWWWW!" at the top of his lungs in a room full of other people. His face was brick red as he was doing this, and even his eyeballs turned red. The waiter brought him a glass of milk, which is apparently better than water for putting the fire out.
I would have to say this guy didn't like the pepper, but the rest of us were highly entertained. ;-))

I had a Thai curry that was made with those tiny, little, adorable, cute, red peppers.
Thought I was gonna die!
No joke. After losing all of the skin in my mouth, throat and sinuses, my stomach knew better than to get in the way.
None of that "digesting" stuff... Oh no! Traitorous tummy just dumped the whole bowl, rice and all into my intestines where it proceeded southward like a slow-moving ball of lava... coated with burning gasoline and broken glass.
Oh, the pain, the sweating the burping and... uh, "other reactions" , let's just say... I couldn't drink enough water, eat enough ice cream or anything... and the whole time I could tell you within a millimeter right where that curry was.
I won't even mention the next morning, except to say that I did a very good impression of Mount Vesuvius during one of the larger eruptions.
Best wishes!

At a restaurant, probably a salsa from this little Mexican place in town. I have no clue how many jalapenos they must have put in that batch!
Now, if you count homemade cooking, I once made horseradish mashed potatoes. I didn't think 1 Tbsp was enough HR, so I put in 4 Tbsp of RAW HORSERADISH.
I will never ever do that again. My face was burning, my throat, my stomach, I felt like I was going to puke. I could barely breathe through my nose because it was on fire!
