You have to take care of yourself first. That means you need to get a job so you have money to take care of your needs. Then after that, if you have any money left over, you can decide if you want to give her some.
Then you need to find out what she is spending money on. Find out if it is on something important or just wasting it. After that, you will know if you want to give her more money. Also you can try and help her find a job so she can get her own money. Or if you really like her still, you two can try and make your own business together.
Otherwise she is just going to keep asking you for money and when you don't have any money, she will just move on and ask someone else. Try and solve your problem now by getting your own job, that way if you want to, you can help her out later.

You are going to wish her well and inform her that you would have liked to have been able to help her out. She is using you for money and I hope when you are able to help someone in need, it will be someone more deserving. If she was in that much of a mess, she would have gotten a job and not bothered you with her problems. People who are really in need, never ask for help due to they are too proud and emberrassed. Thank you and have a great day.

You say she is your ex... even then you wish to help her... why?? Is it that you want to keep both X (ex) and Y... perhaps Z as well... if there is any?
Well, even if you know 'why' then the next question is How??
Be practical young man just say sorry. Dont even give her shoulder to cry as someone has suggested... if your current one or her current one sees you then you will need a shoulder too... perhaps 4 shoulders to lift you.

the only thing you can do is explain to her your situation. from the sound of it, you seem like you are in need of money too. there are plenty of ways to let someone know that you care, but you shouldnt have to sacrifice financial stability to do so. tell her that you will do whatever you can to help, but economically you are very limited. that is the best thing you can hope to do.

Unless you have children with this woman, you shouldn't feel obligated to be giving her money in the first place. It's honorable that you want to help but you have to take care of yourself first.

invite her over or go there,

buy some groceries, cook some good meals

see why she needs the money

is she into drugs or gambling or just buying useless crap

make sure she has $5 a day to spend while you are there

try to fix the situation long term for her

seems like that was the only reason she was with you. Girls are wrong for even being like that...i would tell her that u need some money, since she dont have any, she might leave u alone. definitly dont get back with her.

She's your ex - so why worry about her now. You have to look out for #1 that's you.
Tell her NO, we are not together anymore, Go get yourself a job. and leave it at that....

if u don't have the money then you don't have the money to give her...you're jobless and so u needed the money more than her. your savings has dried up so why are you asking?
