Numbers 1 - 9 are spelled out, once you get to10 and above, you can just use the numerals. Here's a web site to prove my point...

Type two. You want to always use letters when describing the amount of something, your age, and the amount of money. Review a newspaper or even a book and you'll see it for yourself. I hope this answers your question.

In shorthand/notes, 2 is better.
In actual essays, always use the word "two" unless it's a date (such as 1990 or June 6th).

all in digits like 1, 1.2 and so on. You need to add the units as well, and it makes sense to write anything in digits.
