It's sort of a graduation test. Basically without passing it (you get to take it once in junior year, and if you fail, once again in senior year, and current seniors are given two chances) you don't get your high school diploma, but some opponents are suing to countermand that, claiming that not all schools are given sufficient resources to help the seniors who's yet to pass.
