One thousand dollars can make a huge difference in the life of a child in a third world country. It can pay for their education, food and medicine for at least two years. In this time - a child can learn to read....thus having an enormous impact on their future. Because those of us sitting here tapping away on our pcs live such pampered lives where this amount of money would be merely considered a 'nice bonus' - it is difficult for us to even consider how much a life can be changed with such a seemingly insignificant amount of money. Yeah - Oprah has a lot of money. So what? If you are reading this - then you are doing okay!!!!!

In the past I have given to great organizations like Philabundance who can feed 4 to 5 people with just a one dollar donation. They are more efficient than I am in that respect.
But if I were required to spend the money personally, I would have to say that my mother's recent stints in rehabs and nursing homes would make that the most likely recipient of attention. If I couldn't do anything but adopt a couple of strays and pay for cat food until the money was exhausted - that would provide more love and more companionship than most of the people who are "imprisoned" there recieve in a years time. It really is sad how lonely they are..

1000.00 is a lot of money and I imagine could go far in helping more than one person have a very good year. I would have a fund raiser. I would could purchase I Pods and Play staystations and a couple of "Oprah's Favorite things" with the 1000.00 and raffle them off. All of the proceeds would go to the hospice center. I can't tell you how many raffle tickets, cookies and candies I have purchased over the years. It would finally be payback time!

I am a Renal Dietitian and everyday I encounter patients who are on-up to 20 medications and cannot afford to buy them all. What they do is take turns on each one. This does them no good since there is a break in medication treatment. These medications are not selective, they are meds which are crucial for their well being. I would use the $1000 to give to the most needed patient.

With so many in need this is a difficult answer. I believe in helping others to help themselves. I would find a genuinely down and out single mother and treat her to a hair salon, nails, and decent looking clothes. Then I would personally take her wherever necessary until we found her a job that would allow her to support her children and herself. I believe that with a genuine opportunity, support, and a restored sense of self worth, a person
can turn their life around. If a thousand would'nt do it I would make up the difference.

Oprah, spends money like it's nothing to her, to give the poor a break, for she was poor once before, so she knows what it's like to have nothing.Xmas is coming up , what do u think that she'll be doing this time? she's like Mrs. Clause & that guy who gives free turkey away, to make life a little easier for someone else.
What she should be doing is to help us pay for bills this year to get them cleared away!

I would find an 18 year old child who was recently kicked out of the Foster Care program due to his or her age and give it to them. It breaks my heart that these kids are just "let go" by the system when they turn 18. I wish I could adopt them all. Hopefully that 1,000 would help them pay rent, buy food or go to school. I would love to be able to give them a boost of happiness... take some stress off, and maybe give them a hug!!!

I would go to Russia with my own money then I'd find one of the cute old ladies selling flowers in the streets for pennies. Then I'd buy some flowers and give her the money as a tip.

Eat lunch?
I would guess that she can't even fathom the amount $1000 actually is otherwise she wouldn't expect it to have LIFE changing results for the recipient.
