A security expert says he believes coalition forces face the prospect of defeat in Iraq with serious consequences.

Former soldier and military historian Robert O'Neill says it is likely the coalition will pull its troops out early.

I think that the war in Iraq is a war that cannot be won just like the war on terror, sure we can do things to help the cause but the actual war/wars are not going to be won. I just cant believe how many people still think that we can win this war. I don't know if it is worse than Vietnam, we lost over 50,000 people there but the long term ramifications of this war cannot be measured.

They war in Iraq has become a religious war. Each sector wants to take control.

There has been no solution for other religious wars.

I dont particularly care for the war, but I will support this country and its troops and its president. Without them, we would be just like the countries we are trying to help improve.

Our misguided failure in Vietnam did not have the level of geopolitical consequences that our messing up Iraq is starting to have, so it is worse.
