I'm a bad golfer looking to get better, I'd like to get a new set (My current set is cheap and horrible). Can anyone suggest a quality set for $300-$400?

There is an ebay type web site called www.golfclubexchange.com. New and used gear of every type.

As far as quality brands to look for, Mizuno MX series are a nice oversized cast cavity back with a decent offset to assist a high handicapper with keeping the ball in play. Nicklaus golf has some less expensive sticks that hit well too.

Mostly you just need to get into the shops and swing everything that you can get your hands on. you'll find one or two brands that feel better than all the others and those are what you need to buy. So much of the game of golf is mental, so finding a set of clubs that feel good and look good at address will definately take strokes off of your score.

Do Not!!! skimp on your putter. I have so many friends who will spent $400 on a new driver, but have a $30 putter in their bag. Putting is the key to lowering your handicap. Don't be afraid to spend some dough on a quality putter.

Good luck, and enjoy the game

Your best bet is to check EBay and other online auctions. $300-400 for new for clubs is going to get you starter sets that will break very easily and you will outgrow them very quickly. The material and balance will be off and it will take enjoyment out of the game.

Golf is an expensive and addicting sport. Golfers will constatnly upgrade or change their clubs leaving to sell their old ones. many times these are barely used. other then this, Rockbottomgolf.com has low priced clubs (usually leftovers). Do not by the Ram set - they are bad and if you hit a fat shot, the shaft will break at or near the hossel.
