I shoot for eight, but never seem to get more than six, and scarcely know anybody who gets more than that. In this day and age of mandatory overtime, long commutes, "making time" for family and friends, it seems as though the one thing most of us have in common is that we're all losing sleep. I was wondering if anybody knew of any studies comparing our sleep cycles to those fifty years ago, when the US was doing well, or perhaps to the dark ages when people woke with the sun and didn't stay awake much past sunset?

I have fibromyalgia, and have a great deal of difficulty getting restorative sleep....I usually get about 6hrs, but it's not "good" sleep, pain in my "trigger spots" wakes me often, and I have chronic migraines as a result of my poor sleep rhythm. Praise the Lord, other than that life is WONDERFUL! ;-)
EDIT:
Oh...did I mention, Hubby's a big SNORER? LOL

I don't have kids so it is easier for me. I go to bed around 9:30 and wake up at about 4:45 to work out in the morning (3 times a week) - so that is 7 hours. The other days I wake up at about 5:30, so that's 8 hours.

I shoot for 8 and get 6-7. I work nights so that is why I am here during the day.

Well, technically I don't sleep at all during the night (I work the graveyard).

I'll just say that on a good day I get 6, on a bad day I get 2, usually though I split the difference.

4 to 5 hours. I work the night shift, 12.5 hour shifts. Plus a 3-hour round trip commute. I try to make up for it on my days off, but you know how that goes......

I'd be interested in seeing a survey too, if you find one.

I have 2-month old twins, so I get very little sleep at night. Maybe 2-4 hours (if I'm lucky). Not enough. I guess that means I must be wicked...hmmm, parenthood=wickedness. Interesting concept! /ponders
