Go with the Chi! Make sure you get one that has a temperature setting and have it set pretty high. Slide the iron over the hair quickly....don't hold it on the hair for any length of time! You may have to go over it several times, just be quick! All the girls at the salon I work at own Chi irons! They really are awesome.

I did a lot of ethnic hair in cosmetology school, and I used a Global Beauty flat iron. It worked wonders! Honestly, it doesn't really matter what brand of flat iron you buy, as long as the plates are ceramic and you can adjust the temperature of the unit. And you would want to look for a flat iron that can get to about 400 degrees. Any hotter will do some serious damage and any less won't do much at all.
Good luck!

I believe that CHI is the best flat iron out there! My sister has extremely thick hair and the CHI works great for her!

Go for Chi... esp. Chi Turbo it gets really hot quickly and works really well. It works on all different kinds of hair and makes it really straight.

I personally recommend the chi iron, it becomes very hot very fast, so careful, and use with straightening balm to reap full effects

I use chi on my daughter, her hair is more Mariah Carey. I use the cricket on myself, it mositurizes more, I relax my hair 4x's a year. The cricket does not work on her curls, the chi is too hot for mine. We're both mixed.
