Hey Man,

Steel guitar is:

A method of playing slide guitar using a steel. Resonator guitars, including round necked varieties, are particularly suitable for this style, but other types are also used, usually with modified high actions, as well as instruments produced specifically for the purpose.
A specialised instrument built for playing in steel guitar fashion. These are of several types:
Lap steel guitar, which may be:
Lap slide guitar, with a conventional wooden guitar box.
The square-necked variety of resonator guitar.
Electric lap steel guitar.
Electric table steel guitar.
Electric pedal steel guitar.
The name steel guitar comes not from the material of which the guitar is made, but from the name of the steel, a slide held in the left hand.

Actually playing (the notes) is no more difficult than a normal guitar. The open tuning and the use of a slide does make things a little easier in some instances.

What I found difficult to cope with was the pedals and knee levers.

As with most things, practice makes perfect.

A steel guitar is as easy to play as a regular guitar, yet it is constructed entirely of steel and can weigh in excess of 500 pounds, a real b-itch to lug around unless you're into hernias. I suggest a nice regular wood guitar, maybe constructed out of ash and maple

ever seen a dude playing a guitar thats mounted on a table, or sitting on his lap?...Word.
I play fretless bass with a glass slide on my left pinky, both hands on the frets like a keyboard...very easy
I think I`m gunna make one with the pickups in the middle of the neck.
