usually just one a day. It seems I might be able to save a lot of money by getting a generic cell and using these cards. I don't usually make any long distance calls, just local. Any thoughts?
And how does that work? Thank you for any help.

Those 'generic' phones are of two kinds: 1. CDMA 2. GSM.

1. CDMA - Verizon, Virgin
2. GSM - Tmobile, Cingular (AT&T)

Typically you buy one of these phones anf one of their cards and follow the instructions to 'top up' or load minutes. Then start using the phones by dialing the standard telephone numbers. they all have expiration dates.

May not work in ALL areas.

Good luck.

When I moved to my new house 2 years ago I cancelled my land line phone. I only use my cell. No problems and I save $50 a month.

$70!
dang, thats alota money!
I pay $20 in Wa.
once you get a shitty wallmart prepay cell.. or whatever, it`s like 10-25 cents/min(rounds up at end of each call)
and I dont recomend that you get into a long term(>1yr) contract.
or get a phone that will make you cry when it breaks.
