then why can some civilazations be traced back further than that?
I dont have a problem with people believing what they want I was just curious as to how those of you who believe in such a young earth can explain this. The only example I can think of off the top of my head is the ancient Egyptian civilazation which started 5000 bc, putting it at 7000 years ago.
Thanks for any serious answers

Saige I'm assuming your answer is to ignore the evidence presented by hisortians and/or scientists.
Thank you, that all I needed to know!

Actually, angry, I very rarely choose best answers. Its not a biased question, I was curious and Saige was the only one honest enough to give me the answer of ignoring what scientists say! I was sincere it what I said to her, thats all I wanted to know, thats why I asked!

Glue was invented 7000 years ago. I guess God used that human invention 6000 years ago to glue our planet together.

This is easy but complex at the same time. Scientist date things and their readings are correct. But the big assumption that scientist make is that the conditions of the earth today is the same as they were 6000 years ago.
Now lets go back to the story of Noah's flood. In this story, enough rain fell down and covered the earth to wipe out just about every living thing except those in the ark. Now, think about how different the earths atmosphere had to have been to carry so much water vapor that it could rain that much around the entire globe. This water vapor atmosphere on the early earth gave the entire planet a stable temperature. There was no frozen antartica and dry barren desert. The original Earth was for the most part perfect. After this water came down and created the world wide flood, not only did the surface of the earth change, but the atmosphere was altered as well drastically and over the entire globe. This created alterations in rocks and all material on the earth.
Because scientist dont believe the flood ever happened and the earth is the same now as it was before, when they look at rocks and artifacts, they see these dramatic changes and feel safe to assume it must have taking many more years to make these changes then what actually happened.
So as a Christian, hearing scientist say that things are older than 6000 years old does not nullify your faith at all. But obviously if you are looking to have a hook of doubt then this provides one

I think the earth is about 4 billion or more years old, and man has been walking upright for between 3 to 7 million years. It is because the Bible covers a period of about 6 thousand years of recorded history (man being the most intelligent beast that the Lord God had made.) that creationists think the earth is 6 thousand years old. And people generally believed that untill the advent of scientific tools, that proved the earth was a lot older. This has caused a crisis for creationists who have taught 6 thousand year theory. The same as Gallileo caused a crisis, because what he discovered, directly went against what the church had been teaching for all time. Six thousand years ago was when human beings relationship with the True God began.

Come on - the earth in not thousands of years old but many millions of years old. This has been proved by the earth scientists and astronemrs to every thinking persons satisfaction.
Pre human remains have been found that are older than 6,000 years!!!
Your 6,000 years must be from a religious source - please just check with any reputable scientific source. Even the average school atlas is likely to have better information than you are using!!!!

The scientific community has for decades used a faulty process known as carbon-dating to date all artifacts it discovers. All newly found artifacts are dated and compared to previously discovered artifacts that have been erroneously dated and ascribed to a certain era or timeframe. One miscalculation throws off the entire dating process.
The first known civilization is Mesopotamia and is properly dated to around 4000-5000 BC. This is the same region that the Bible describes as where the Garden of Eden was located (between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers) and where the first accounts of the Biblical creation story originated.
Contrary to what several Christians on this post have proclaimed, the Bible is very clear and very literal about the length of time it took for God to create the earth. It took 6 days to create it, including the creation of man on the 6th day. On the 7th day God took a BIG nap! It is at that time 6,000 years ago that civilization as we know it began. In other words, God spoke and the world was created.
By the way, judging from your comment to Saige, I can tell this is going to turn out to be yet another biased question with another biased answer along with all of it's liberal and anti-Christian rhetoric chosen as the best.

Good honest question. The problem here is the validity of the dates. The oldest known artifact that I have heard of with a 'verifiable' date is about 5500 years old. That would date it at about 3500 B.C. Notice I used the word "about". That is about as close as we can get, and feel certain about it.
Now we have dates from some rocks and fossils that go way back millions of years-how can we possibly verify that. We can't. Many dates before 5500 years are speculated, and "ALL" dates beyond that are pure speculation based on the "assumed" date values assigned to the various stages of the geologic column. And thats a fact.

We can't know how old the earth is. Not even scientists can. When God formed the earth, it was a mature earth so it already had rocks, mountains, grasses, trees, and such. I believe that Bible scholars have tried to figure the age of the earth according to recorded Bible dates, such as the ages mentioned of the men and events in the Bible.

The Bible NEVER said the earth is 6,000 years old. If you look at Gen. 1:2, you will clearly see that the earth was already in existence BEFORE the first "day" started. Those "days" were huge time periods that God used to prepare the earth for human habitation. The earth could have been around for millions of years before the first "day" started.
Apparently, those who have given me "thumbs down" don't know the real story. Pity.

In my opinion people that believe the world is only 6000 years old are people that have absolutely no commen sense or reasoning, It is absolutely ludicrous to proclaim such nonsense.

It's not the earth that is only 6,000 years old... it's mankind! There's no telling HOW long it took the earth to come to the point of habitation, the Bible doesn't tell us how long each creation day actually was. But the history of man is only 6,000 years old.

You're right. But remember, the Bible never says really how old the earth is. In my opinion the earth itself is billions of years old, while life on earth is between 8-10,000 years old.
