Cats get upper respiratory infections, coughing, sneezing etc. They're usually put on antibiotics.

Cats that are boarded can also develop kennel cough. It's a virus that needs to be treated with antibiotics. Not all boarding facilities have problems with this, If the kennel is kept really clean most pets won't get the virus. If your cat came home with kennel cough take it to the vet for treatment.

There is something similar it cats, though it's not as prevalent because cats don't often come into contact with each other (as opposed to dogs who are boarded at kennels, or who visit the park). The shelter I volunteer with gives all incoming cats a bordetella vaccine (the cat version), due to the closeness of the shelter environment, but it's generally not recommended for housepets; once our cats are adopted out, their owners rarely if ever repeat this vaccination.

The same bordatella bacteria that causes kennel cough in dogs will cause this condition in virus-weakened cats.
