How do i know what what should be running in the background...and what can be stopped?
It takes a long time to boot up also.

You have to erase virus,

I've a good secret for you, press on start icon then press on run and write msconfig.

After appearance of search results, press on startup and disable all running programs.

Once you do it, you'll give me the 10 points sir.

Try tuning the PC using a free trial copy of TuneUpUtilities from here:

if you look at the process list (ctrl-alt del, then processes tab) find what is eating up your memory and cpu cycles and do a search online for the process that is using the most to see if it is good or a bad process.

Dont listen to anyone telling you to go to a hacker site.

Get legitimate tools like winpatrol (linked below) and websites like http://www.liutilities.com to look over the various startup and background tasks.

CTRL + ALt + DLT
then processes..but if its a new comp..maybe it needs all the programs to open to work?
