For each teaspoon of Baking powder needed you can use the following substitution:

1/4 teaspoon baking soda plus 5/8 teaspoon cream of tartar

DOUBLE ACTING: 1 tsp = 1/4 tsp baking soda plus 5/8 tsp cream of tartar OR1/4 tsp baking soda plus 1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk (reduce liquid in recipe by 1/2 cup) OR 1/4 tsp baking soda plus 3/8 cup molasses (reduce liquid in recipe by 1/4 cup; adjust sweetener) OR 11/2 tsp phosphate or tartrate baking powder

hi; try this>>1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar plus 1/4 teaspoon baking soda..remember that this is a substitution..for best results use the ingredients specified in the recipe...

For 1 tsp. of baking powder you need 1/4 tsp. baking soda & 1 tsp. of cream of tartar.

2 tbsp. cream of tartar
1 tbsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. cornstarch

Sift together. Store in airtight container. One teaspoon of this is equal to 1 teaspoon store bought baking powder.
