Like all armor this only covers your chest and back, your sides and neck are exposed which are vital parts. I need one or two more reason why body armor is bad

Pinnacle Armor’s SOV-3000 aka Dragon Skin body armor, does provide protection for the sides and the neck. However side protection is offered when purchasing an extended coverage option while protective neck collar would have to be another add-on purchase. While it is heavy, it does not require rigid ballistic plate inserts (which adds up if you wear body armor that uses rigid ballistic plates) and the weight is nicely distributed around the body so that it does not feel that heavy. It is also flexible due to its design and construction, and at least it is far more flexible than the Interceptor OTV. They are also dive capable due to a durable sealing for the overt tactical vest and having positive, negative or neutrally buoyant configuration.

It is true that the downside to “Dragon Skin” is its price tag, but human lives have no price tag. And the US government would save much more money if they had rid of a couple F-22s or V-22s and spent it on supplying the ground troops with Dragon Skin because of the live saving potential it has (more than the Interceptor OTV). The troops deserve the best, so why be cheap about it? Money and politics. Defense contractors, acquisition personnel, and careerist brass in the military want to protect their Interceptor OTV to save face and to continue making money off 1970s body armor technology. That is the true reason why the US military isn’t issuing a Dragon Skin to those who really win wars… the grunts.

Note: I asked this once and i was annoyed at how stupid the people on YA are, they have no idea what you mean by dragon skin.

To answer your question, The only down side I see from dragon skin, is the price. It's the only body armor that can stop rifle rounds like that.

my understanding that this armor is very restrictive, and does not all the freedom of movement that other body armor does,, but as far as it not protecting your sides and neck,, you are a little off on that the dragon skin provides more protection than any other armor on the market that was the trade off, better all around protection,, but with less mobility that is why the gov. did not go with dragon skin armor

goto this web site it will let you compare a few types of armor http://www.military.com/soldiertech/0,14632,Soldiertech_060420_dragon3,,00.html?ESRC=soldiertech.nl

SWAT uses armor like this and had to adapt their firing stances to compensate. You no longer present a side or your torso to the bad guy while firing (presented a smaller target and less likely to get hit) but rather they have to learn to trust the armor to stop incoming rounds and face them squarely. Unnerving but more effective.

It may slow down hulkering soldier types, because of the weight of the armor.
It may reduce your flexibility.
It is terrible if you have an itch near your nipples.

It can be heavy, and hot. People may think you are wierd. Those are the downsides I can see.

Oh and it will weigh you down in water....you could drown if you tried to swim in it.

Ever notice how all the dragons are extinct? Killed by knights wielding swords and bows. "Dragon skin" has never been very effective.
