Because believing in something (no matter what) is far better than believing in NOTHING.

if God is not real then how do you explain my life from what it was, drug dealer/ ex gang member/ user, to being a youth pastor now? Was it me? NO....I couldn't get out if i had moeny to buy my way out! I have seen things and experianced things in both relms and beliveve me when they say where theres evil there is good. I was a none belivere at one time and i wondered about prayers but it starts w/ a relationship not religon w/ Jesus and reading the bible and praying. If you don't have the relationship then how do expect to have prayers answered? if you have a relationship and your not seeing them answered whos time line are you useing yours or Gods? He will answer but it needs to be according to His will. I really hope this helped a little and I am always willing to discuss more....trust me by no means do ever want you to think that i think less of you for questioning.

Prayers are the ways to find wisdom, comprehence and answers. They are not spells. You must understand that some of them end only on your good will. Sometimes is because except praying we do nothing to make them be, sometimes is because some things must happen. You can not stop God, but you can always ask Him to do it and receive grant or answer why it can not happen.

How do you know your prayers are all good for you? Can you know more than a doctor which medicine fits you the best? Its just like that, we cant know better than Him which prayer will be good for us and which wont. If you are questioning your faith that means you believe in God. I hope He leads you to the right path.

In your case, I'd guess you shouldn't.
Sorry that was judgemental. What prayers did you make? For 'stuff'? Or for Faith? Why should a God who you don't believe in or care about bother with your 'prayers'? Try developing a relationship with Him before you decide to spurn Him.
God is a Person, not a vending machine!

First of all, figure out what God is supposed to be. If God is supposed to be an omnipotent man who will make your life easy as long as you're faithful, I'd say you have no reason to believe in that.
I tend to think of God not as a person but as the universe itself, and understanding the world to be the same as understanding God. When trouble strikes me, I don't ask what I did to deserve what happened to me, but what can I learn from it.
For that reason I don't really pray, I just try to learn as much as I can and try to do as much as I am able to make the world better.

Maybe they have and you just don't know it. I know how you feel though, but supposedly, a belief in God gives you the comfort of knowing that someone with a higher knowledge knows the true requirements for the direction of your life.
A child may beg for a bowl of sugar for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day but that doesn't mean the parent will grant that wish. We are the "children" of God in the very sense. We may THINK we are all-knowing adults, but his knowledge is (supposedly) so infinitely higher that we are as confused as that child who doesn't get the sugar.

Christians will tell you that god answers prayers 3 ways: yes, no and "not right now."
I have a wonderful dog named Pandora. When I pray to her, she answers prayers in those exact same ways.
Either god doesn't exist or he has the same prayer-granting powers as my golden retriever.

He listens to his children. Are you claiming to be a child of God?
His word says every man is a liar, but God cannot lie. It is not his nature to lie.
First things first, become a child of god by confession,
Salvation that comes from trusting Christ-which is the message we preach-is already within easy reach. In fact, the Scriptures say, "The message is close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart."
For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.
Romans 10:8-10
Then, ask in faith, and the father will answer.

Why indeed?
I guess there are those who will argue that God is not your own personal genie. But the truth is, you're entitled to your beliefs and what you choose to believe is your own business. I personally wonder why a good and merciful God would let the innocent suffer and let so-called Christians preach messages of hatred and fear.

Is Jesus in your heart?
He gives you the power of prayer, when He is accepted into your heart.
God wants you to pray for things that HE would need you to pray for--like for OTHERS.
You chase God with everything, and His blessings will chase YOU!
