Yes, they can. The Marine Corps offers a tuition assistance program. But if you're unable to complete your classes, you'll have to pay for them totally out of pocket. Be sure you ask both the college and the tuition assistance office what your financial obligations will be if you get suddenly deployed during the middle of the semester.

it is finished besides the undeniable fact that it is not as honey lined because of the fact the recruiter mentioned. The existence of an energetic duty Marine who's attending college (at night) by no ability resembles a civilian working a tender activity and attending college at night. do no longer misunderstand. The Marines are large. they're all dependable to their fellow Marines, to the Corps, and to usa. And the Marines are a small, close knit family. I acquired a BS degree in actual practise at the same time as i became into an energetic duty Marine. the only hitch interior the approach became into that it took me 12 years to receive the degree. between changing duty stations, distant places excursions of duty, college for me became into on returned and stale returned. besides, it is finished. lots of luck. Yes you can take college courses while on active duty, although it depends on your command and specific MOS. If you cannot complete the class you owe tuition assistance all moneys paid to cover tuition, books, etc.
Lets say your a grunt i.e. Infantry or your part of a unit that supports the grunts such as Motor Transport, also know as Motor T. You have less of a chance of finishing school as you do of dodging a bullet. Most likely your stationed at a fully deployable duty station and you'll be gone most of the year. If your "lucky" and I mean "lucky" as in your stationed at a non deployable duty station such as Quantico (those of you who are there know what I mean) you might be able to finish a semester, but if your in one of the MOS' listed above your still in the dirt (i.e. out in the field on ops for those non-military ppl out there)most of the time.
Now if you got a cake MOS (like supply) or your Admin(paper pusher) and your not deployable you can take classes but you still probably wont graduate with a Bachelors Degree in four years.
The Reserves is not your best option right now. Although you have a better chance of enlisting you also have a chance of getting activated and going over seas.
Best bet in my opinion, if you do enlist, do your four years and get out so you can use the GI Bill. It pays for almost a full four years and you can live off what they give you. Or stay in a full 20 years, gradually get a Bach. degree while your in. Retire at say 38 if you joined at 18. and use the GI Bill to cover graduate school. Plus you get retirement pay.
Oh, btw yes the Marine Corp will send you to school and pay for it before you join, but you owe 6 years as an officer when you graduate, if you get through OCS (Officer Candidate School) and TBS(The Basic School-Boot for officers). If you whimp out you owe the Corp what you "borrowed". Good Luck.

It depends on your mos,
while yes if your a grunt you can take classes, chances are you wont get a degree. if you become a clerk in some rear unit that never goes to the field, you can almost get a masters.
I was in the army as an engineer, (airborne at that) we went to the field maybe 10 - 14 days out of the month,(we'd go for 3-4 days, come back for a week or 2 then go back out for 3-4 days and come back for 1 or 2 weeks) we were always at some firing range, doing some night time land navigition or doing a 20k road march. if you like taking your books to the woods go for it. but normally if your in a combat mos its gonna be hard to wing it. the only people i knew going to school and getting anywhere were the pencil necks, (adminstration people)
I honestly think it might be more difficult in the USMC, them vets can better expalin.

It depends alot on your MOS and weather you deploy or not. Its much more difficult if you are gone all the time. There are colleges on most bases but many military members choose online colleges. The military offers tuition assistance for college both while you are active and after you get out. So yes, it is possible for you to go to college while active duty.

I know in the Air Force you can go to school full time and not have to actually work at your duty station. At least, it was that way 8 years ago. However, you have to pay that time back to the military. I believe it was for every one day you went to class you owed the military 1 1/2 days back. Your best bet on that is to talk to your superiors, they should know whether or not the Marines allow you to do this.

You can take some courses but don't expect to get a degree, it is more like building up the credit count more than anything else. Get the General Ed out of the way. As a Marine you (or whom you are asking for) would be deployed too often to get very far.

Today, with more and more colleges and universities going to internet teachings, it could be possibly for an individual to continue school while serving on active duty. Undergraduate studies still require classroom attendance, as far as I know, but even that might change as time goes by.
I believe it would be extremely difficult for anyone who is not based stateside, or who moves around a lot, to even attempt on line education!

Stay in the Corps and retire after 20. Then you can get just about any federal job you want.
