Does a wall plug with nothing attached (no power saving gadgets or ANYTHING) save electricity?

Nope.

They only make plugs like that so you can plug in a lamp and use the wall switch to turn the lamp on/off rather than the lamp's own switch.

If there is nothing connected to the plug then there is zero energy being used. You can't waste any less than zero. :)

I think that's like shutting off the water supply to a faucet that doesn't get used in the first place.

You can't save anything, because nothing was being taken in the first place.

No it does'nt.If nothing is drawing current on a circuit, turning it off makes no difference
