I was driving through Indiana in 1983 on a four lane separated highway. As I neared the crest of a hill, I noticed the approaching car on the other side flashing his lights. This diverted my attention from the road for a moment. As I topped the hill, I looked back in front of my car to see an 18 wheeler stopped dead in the right hand lane in front of me. The driver was under the trailer on his back apparently working on the trailer. I remember his eyes staring upside down directly at me obviously thinking he and I were about to die. I had only enough time to reflexly jerk the steering wheel to the left. I missed the trailer traveling at probably 70 miles an hour by no more than a foot. It happened so fast I didn't have time to think just react. About a mile down the road, though, the adrenaline started to kick in and I got the shakes so bad I had to pull over to settle down.

I would prefer not to get into the physical aspects.
However, the experience itself was that I woke to find myself in a dimly lit cave, though the light source wasn't obvious (I didn't see a fire or candles). The cave continued all the way in both directions to the limits of sight. I was sitting on the stone floor and saw a large wolf easily my size sitting next to me that I immediately recognized as Fenrir Wolf of Norse mythology. Without a word, I reached up and placed my hand on his shoulder, and he wrapped his paw around my arm to return the gesture. That was it. We never said a word, but there was a clear invitation to return whenever I needed.
I've since gone back, but thankfully not via the auspices of nearly dying, the other times have been by choice and out-of-body projection.
Despite this, I don't believe Fenrir actually exists; I remain an absolutely certain atheist.

I coded on an ER table when I was twenty-two. I didn't see a bright light, angels, relatives, or other figure. I was cold, scared, and there was a godawful buzzing sound. I think the buzzing was the sound of the EKG flatlining.
