As with all antidepressants, the effect varies from person to person. I've known people to have great results with lexapro, but personally, it didn't work for me.
It should start to take effect within 1 - 2 weeks, and you should be seeing your doctor again before 2 weeks is up.
If you have any concerns, or if you think it is affecting you badly, go back to your doctor.
Hope you feel better soon.

Can I stop taking Lexapro once I feel better?
No. You should take your medicine for as long as your healthcare professional advises, even if you start feeling better; otherwise your symptoms could return or worsen. Your healthcare professional may ask you to keep taking Lexapro even if you are feeling better.
Are there side effects with Lexapro?
Lexapro is well tolerated by most people. The most commonly reported side effects of Lexapro are nausea, insomnia, problems with ejaculation, somnolence (or "drowsiness", or "hypersomnia"), increased sweating, fatigue, decreased libido, and anorgasmia. Weight gain, hair loss and a chance that the suicidal thoughts or feelings could worsen!

I take it for anxiety. It didn't take long to work, and it really works. I'm not 100%, but I'm definitely better than I was without it. I started taking it 1st thing in the morning, but I would feel a little nauseous, so now I take it right before I go to bed and I'm fine. The only side effect I have is a slightly lower sex drive, but it's manageable. Good luck.

Takes about 2 weeks to reach "therapeutic" levels in your body. But you might start noticing the effects (elevated mood) after a week.
