hi.
i was wondering if you use a conditioning hair mask on your hair, if you leave it in for longer than it says, like an hour rather than 5 minutes, does it work better for your hair or is it bad for your hair? would it moisturise it more or damage it? i'd like to know thank you!

It probably wouldn't damage your hair, or they'd put a warning on the bottle not to leave on longer than 5 minutes. Chances are, leaving it on any longer won't help much either, maybe just a little bit.

I've worked as the manager of a hair salon for 6 years...
leaving it on longer than recommended will not hurt your hair....it won't necessarily help either. the product can only penetrate so far, so however long you leave it on, you'll get just about the same result (as long as you do it for as long as the product company recommends). The product I use and swear by is made by an Italian company, Framesi. It's part of their "Options" line - called "Revive". It's a protein mask and works wonders. I will strongly recommend to only use it once to twice a week. Too much protein can make your hair brittle. If it's moisture that you feel your hair needs, use a moisturizing deep conditioner. Framesi sells one called "Drench", also a part of their "Options" line that I love! I alternate them both on my hair and have had really awesome results!

I've noticed leaving conditioners for longer than what's instructed tends to make hair a bit waxy. It's not harmful or anything. But it's better not to do that if the instructions don't read like say 'leave on for 5 minutes or more'.
