She is a former abused Egyptian Mau, the breeder took her back after finding out about the abuse and we got her from a friend of the breeders. She was pregant, but the babies were still born, we've had her 6 years and still she won't allow me to pick her up.

She has turned into a love bug since, but still no cigar for picking up. We did have her fixed and front declawed.

We adopted a 4 yr old cat from SPCA this summer. She hates to be picked up too. After seconds or a minute she will start meowing and squirming to get down. Other than that she is very friendly and affectionate. I had a cat growing up that didn't like being picked up either. I don't think there's much you can do about it. Cats have a mind of their own, stubborn creatures.

I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. I have a 7 year old cat that I have had since a baby. She absolutely hates being picked up, she gets stiff as a board. I cannot trim her hind nails at all, this is the first year that we have not had to sedate her to get her vaccines, so that was a plus. I wish I had a better answer for you, but some cats are just like that sorry.

i suggest u leave ur cat alone and stick 2 just cutting its nails and dont pick it up if u got ur cat from another family then they most likely abused it if not then the cat probrably hurt its self and u should wait for about 3 week. @ the end of the third week try picking it up if it still wont let u then go 2 the vet ur cat may have a problem or be seriously injured

Love and patience can turn any intelligent creature around. I have had my cat for about 4 years. Originally I could not pick hum up or hold him. Using treats, I slowly introduced him to affection. Now he comes over and asks to be held. He is still feisty about cutting his nails, but that is because on a previous attempt, we made him bleed.

I wouldn't worry about it. If she uses a scratching post, then she is naturally filing down her nails. No real need to clip her nails that way. If you really insist, have a vet do it.
Some cats will never accept being handled, and you shouldn't expect them to change that, no matter how long you've owned them, or how much they love & trust you.

Well she was abused!! Get her to trust you first. Bring her food and water and pet her when she wants you to. Not all cats what to be picked up.
