Probably 1 school for every 100,000 Americans. And they charge anywhere from free to $500 a month plus some states have governing bodies that require you to be a member as well usually $50-$100 a year.
Remember right now there is a big hype around martials arts with UFC becoming so popular the last couple years. so prices are gonna go up especially in the so called MMA training centers. Where you will get the worst training. It should take at least 5-10 years to get a black belt and that is if you are proficient at the art. Some places will give an 8 year old a black belt in a year. Mean while they didn't learn anything. Martial arts are different for everyone some people do it for life others do it for 2 years and quit.
Unless you are going to do it for a long time don't get into it because why waste the money if in a couple years UFC/MMA fighting gets boring and all of a sudden you realize you don't want to do it because it's not popular anymore. Martial Arts are not a fad.

Nobody knows how many schools there are, as many schools are still run out of basements. The IRS may be able to give some statistics based on legal entities if you really want to pursue it. The national average for tuition runs about $125 per month, although tuition in a particualr school may vary from free to exorbitant. The bigger part of the bell curve falls between $40 and $140 per month. Most students spend a minimum of 1-2 hours per week at the school, although this is on the low end for a dedicated student, who may spend 15 - 20 hours at the school and even more time practicing at home. My average student spends around 4 - 5 hours per week at the school.

1) Nobody knows how many there are or even how many associations there are. There is no requirement to register them.
2) Tuition varies a lot with location.
3) My guess is 2-3 hrs/week.
