Why would you assume it is?

There is no basis for believing that the Bible is God's word, unless you count the Bible. And that's just circular reasoning. I can include this line, "This Yahoo Answer was written by God himself." Does that mean this post was written by God? No, it means that the person who wrote this post claimed it was.

The Bible is much the same way. It has many authors, and they are all men. We don't even know if what they originally wrote down is in the Bible of today. After all, someone else could have come along and written something differently. It was a turbulent time, and the victor gets to rewrite history.

My Bible was published in Michigan. So, my Bible was written by men. I would rather listen to God than to men, which is why I treat the Bible as only an interesting book with some good stories and some terrible stories. I stick to the good stories.

***I actually did read the website you referenced, and here are my thoughts***

The Bible is God's word through prophets, if you beleive in that. A prophet is someone that speaks the word of God, a translator of sorts.

If you don't beleive in that, a prophet is just someone with a mental disorder that thinks they talk to God... Like David Koresh from Waco, Texas.

----Blame Philosophy class for this----

{{{-But just ponder this for a second... an infinite (meaning neverending) life form (life being that with a start and finish, a contradiction in itself) could not communicate through something that has an ending (death)... or else that infinite being would have an ending... Therefore if God (being infinite) could speak through something that had an ending (a prophet, which dies), God's word would have an ending, making God not infinite or "eternal"...}}}

The contradiction of people beleiving in prophets...

The same type of logical contradiction happens with "life" being a test of mankind. If God sees all, knows all, and can do all, there is no reason for there to be a test, because if God gives us choice, and already knows what we will choose, what is the "test?" It is certainly not a test of good and evil, and if it were, a being would be given a "good" or "evil" status at birth, similar to the "Caste System" in India.

Hard to understand, but... Yeah... Logically prophets don't make sense.

::

There is a misconception or flaw of one of these things (in our purpose in life):
1. How we interpreted math and logic
2. How we interpreted prophets and if they actually speak God's word.
3. What the real purpose of our life is, because it is certainly not a test if God knows all.
4. Or... our ancestors didn't define the words "infinate" or "eternal" correctly.

:::::

But... I still do beleive in God, I just think there are misconceptions and problems with the logic in the way the Bible came about and is interpreted. All living things are way to complex to not have been built, evolution has happened, but we still had a start somewhere, and we will certainly have a finish.

P.S. and we do have a "soul" that is "infinite," which makes things even more complicated if you through that into the equation, if a soul is infinite, how can it communicate through our body, which has an ending, or the soul would have an ending also.

The phrase "you must have faith" is used way to commonly in aspect to this, my thoughts on this subject are not geared towards that, and that phrase should not be used to justify the Bible. As with anything made by man, the Bible has flaws, and they should not be hidden with that phrase, they should be looked over, researched, and fixed. This way, we will work towards better truths and understanding, instead of just following what is written, without a clue to what "the purpose" of life is.

I could talk for hours about this I think....

::::::::::

Ok, i'm going to add some more, because my mind is working on this inquiry still...

The way the Bible is written, is with stories and rules, neverminding the facts that I previously stated, these stories and rules were made by minds of men years ago, when the mentality of Earth's population was completely different than it is today. These rules and stories were directed and influenced by society's "ways" of that time, not modern times. For someone of this generation to try and interpret the Bible, would not only be improbable, but ill advised. If the idea of a Prophet is true, than we would need one of this "time" to accurately interpret what our purpose is, or figure out chronologically the purposes of past times and our times. This would be a better explination of past, present, and future ideals for mankind.

Holy Scriptures:
The Holy Scriptures, Old and New Testaments, are the written Word of God, given by divine inspiration through holy men of God who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. In this Word, God has committed to man the knowledge necessary for salvation. The Holy Scriptures are the infallible revelation of His will. They are the standard of character, the test of experience, the authoritative revealer of doctrines, and the trustworthy record of God's acts in history. (2 Peter 1:20, 21; 2 Tim. 3:16, 17; Ps. 119:105; Prov. 30:5, 6; Isa. 8:20; John 17:17; 1 Thess. 2:13; Heb. 4:12.)

I saw this written in another book. The Bible is the word of God not Written BY God. Men wrote the Bible.
Proof.
Adam a man was born first.
God is a man.
Eve was the one who ate the apple.
Eve was weak and Men way back then thought woman were weak.
Jesus was a man.
Jesus was killed by men.
Moses was a man.
Noah was a man.
Mostly all important character in the Bible were men.
So in conclution men wrote the Bible.

Yes, it's God's word. You will always find crackpots who will deny the truth. But he (Jesus) himself said it would be thousands of years ago. He knew then. and it's true today. God is real.The Bible is true.You know a lot of people don't believe until they are on their death bed that the word is true. some never believe. and that is sad.When something happens that's bad, They shout " OH MY God" and he never knew them. Why call him then? They have no relationship with him.Th bible is a book that you must study. It's a revealing book. The living word.

no the bible is a story......that has changed and been being created over many years. most likely none of that is true....well im sure some stuff is but most of it is not true. like i personally think mary was just a whoreand claims to have been a virgin when jesus was born but i doubt it. there is no holy ghost and if there then why do so many people that believe in the holy ghost not believe in other ghosts? or that people believing in god dont believe in supernatural beings when thats what god is. see people are hypocrits and dont even know it. so no the bible is not gods word, god doesnt speak....at least ot humans because he seem to ignore every1 what a great guy huh, we believe in him and he dont do **** for us.

If God is a man then it is. Man made and wrote the bible. Constantine had a lot to do with today's bible as did a lot of other old ruler's that edited the scriptures and ommitted other ones entirely.

The bible is the word of God as determined by a MAN, Roman Emperor Constantine. If this man is trustworthy enough for you to believe that what is in the bible is the word of God than believe it. So since humans are great at lying, who knows .
