And disconcerting too? I am refering to going on line to spell casters and Degrees in Wicca. Let me know your thoughts.

I found "online Wiccan degree training" at workingwitches.co. nad spell casting at spellmaster.com
I agree that much can be learned on line, especially when that is the only source available to some.

anyone got a good spell to remind me to spellcheck my spellcheck? :)
I think courses are probably a good way to learn as long as you are dealing with qualified instructors. Being a solitary (40 years) I was not aware of Degrees in Wicca. I am ever learning.

I do believe much information can be found online, but I don't believe it should be paid for, and no online course can make you a Wiccan.
Degrees are usually part of a coven setting, in which an initiate studies for a year and a day to become a first degree initiate. They then study more, for as long as the Hp and HPs deem fit, and then they are awarded second degree. More time and study, and roles within the coven, and when the HP and HPs see that the person has reached the required level of knowledge and understanding, they then become third degree, and can then become a Priest or Priestess, and are then allowed to go off on their own to set up a coven of their own, if they wish. This is know as an offshoot, or daughter coven I think, and the main HPs sometimes wears a garter with a symbol of the offshoot coven on it, to denote her status.
Please correct me if I am wrong! I am solitary.

What...?
There's an online Wiccan course I've been using for training for some time. It doesn't lead to degrees in Wicca, though. I don't think it's strange or disconcerting. In my area there are exactly two Wiccan supply stores, and they have classes maybe three times a year, given the lack of "qualified" teachers in the area. I do think it's weird going online to have people cast spells for you, though.
Blessed be!

A majority of Pagans can only bet their info this way and by correspondence. I don't really agree with the spell casting online thing and have yet to see one really work. But I don't see anything wrong with learning the lessons for the Degrees in Wicca. Besides, not all of Wicca is based on Degrees anyway and it seems a vast majority are Solitary but looking for info to fill in the spots that are left empty.

Online degrees in anything are worth the paper they are printed on.
Actually I feel about the same for degrees in covens. A way to make you feel more or less important. I would rather see the old teacher\apprentice relationship.
It is what you truly know in your head and heart.
Online spellcasters, most would be posers, some authentic. I have had people ask me for spells. Mostly those who believe in that thing but are not Wiccans\witches themselves. That may or may not be a valid trade depending om how it is approached.. After all in the past witches made a living with herbs and spells - mostly for healing but also for other things.

If you are talking about online schools of Wicca and whatnot, then yes. They are just trying to get money by appealing to the curiousities of people who are waaay into harry potter. Search meticulously and carefully.

Free flow and exchange of knowledge in any field is a good thing. The important thing is not how the information is exchanged but the ability of the receiver to filter for good infromation and discard bad information.
