I don't know about umbilical hernias in human beings.
I had a cat who had one; it manifested itself as a slight protrusion in his mid-section. He lived to be a teen-ager; that is, it did not affect his life span.

What is an umbilical hernia?
An umbilical hernia is a small hole in the abdominal wall at the umbilicus (belly button). It is often most visible when the child cries or strains, as the pressure pushes the abdominal contents or fluid through the hole causing it to bulge. The size of the umbilical hernia is determined by feeling the opening in the abdominal muscle, not by the amount of skin protruding (or sticking) out

Your umbilicus is where your belly button is. It's where you were attached to your mothers umbilical cord in the womb. When you have something called a hernia it is caused by a weakness in the muscles. What commonly happens is bowel which is kept in your abdomen pushes through the weakness and becomes herniated. It's like squeezing shaving foam through your fingers but the shaving foam is not attached to anything. The idea is the squishing foam is like the bowel. The bowel is a long loop or or tube that connects your mouth to your anus, through which your food passes to be digested and waste got rid of. Also you could get a strangulated hernia which is where the muscle the bowel passes through becomes so tight it cuts off the blood supply to the bowel so the bowel that is trapped dies. That is when hernias are very dangerous.

These, I was told by my midwife, can be caused by leaving the umbilical cord to long when it is clamped so the belly button sticks out. Mine however, was caused by pregnancy and weight gain, sometimes it bloody hurts! I get a lump sticking out that is very tender to the touch and can make me heave just by touching it lightly. It gets hard sometimes, especially if I haven't been to the loo or not eaten enough fibre and other times it is soft and doesn't stick out at all. The only cure for my particular one is exercise to bring the abdominal muscles back together again and hold it all in! An operation is out of the question according to my doctor as I am a bit overweight. He means I ain't 6 foot tall and weigh about 2 stone!

Congrats on the breeder that advised you about the hernia. an excellent type of breeders do not tell the hot vendors and the hot vendors locate out a the vet place of work. Hernias are literally to not severe. You did not say in the adventure that your canines replaced right into a male or woman. If a lady under no circumstances breed her. even if it closes on itself , which some do, the domestic dogs can lay adverse to it causing the hernia to open for the domestic dogs to fall through. no longer saying which will ensue yet there continually a threat which will ensue. The vet will restore it at the same time as they restore your canines. As for the fellow who suggested it replaced into undesirable breeding that's no longer the case. As no longer something to do with the breeder. It has lots to do with the mommy biting the wire to on the verge of give way of the puppy. I have reduce and tied my domestic dogs wire, yet she bit the wire afterwards. I had one in all my domestic dogs no longer have a hernia at the same time as it replaced into born yet confirmed up after the puppy replaced into bought. That replaced into the first for me. The vet will inform you what your thoughts are. good success to you.

It's where the muscles around your belly button have got weak and you finish up with a sore lump. If it's small, it may go back of its own accord. Lying on your back and stretching your stomach can help. If it's big, painful or becomes strangulated, you'll need a small operation (10 minutes - local anaesthetic) to mend it.

It is a breakthrough of the abdominal (belly) wall at the level of the belly button. It pushes the belly button outwards.
