I work for 7 law professors. I'd like something nice to give them, but easy - it can be the same thing for all 7, but obviously, money is a consideration. I've made cookies/candy the last two years, but they're all on diets, so I'd like to do something non-food this year. Any non-lame ideas?

I would get them some type of decorative thing for their office or desk area. Maybe a picture frame they can be a picture in, or a stress ball, or a cute ornament of some sort. It's something that they'll always have with them at work and it's kind of a neat thing for them to have there to remind them of you long after you are gone.

There is a business card program you can buy that is about $30 and called Juicy Cards. Try going to www.juicycards.com. You could make each of them Xmas or New Years business cards to have on their desks. The total cost for supplies would be less than five dollars a person and the gift would be made by you and very creative. You could give them the cards in little present boxes. It would be a unique gift.

Mugs are a nice idea, but without the chocolate. Consider putting a gift card to Starbucks in the mug. Or to a bookstore where they can get law books. My boss is a lawyer too, and we do secret Santa in my office, and I'm dreading pulling his name because I'm the receptionist, and make less than the others here.

Give each of them a homemade gift certificate for a day of babysitting their kids, housesitting and petsitting if they like to vacation, or something similar. This could save them more money than you could afford to hand them. Buy a sweet card for each of them, and think about what each of them might need. Is one of them elderly? Offer to come take care of their garden or rake leaves one day. A single mom or dad? Take their kids to the park so they can relax at home with a book. Again, this may end up saving them money, time and energy, and it will be appreciated. Just make it colorful and sweet and thoughtful, and you won't have to spend any money at all.

You should not buy your employers gifts for Christmas. Since they are your supervisors, they should get something for you. Please do not feel obligated to get them a present.

Having said that, if you want to be extra-special-nice to them, you can get a GC to a local bookstore, or the campus bookstore; you can get them more general online GCs; or a GC to a local music store that carries a wide variety of music.

I find that Gift Certificates fit everyone. :o) I know they are not very personal, but you can get them quickly and easily.
