Try Gourmet Burger Kitchen - it's a new chain of "gourmet" burgers. Also - Bodeans in Soho does a mean burger - although it's hard to eat it as you want to have the barbecue...

Of the chains I would recommend the Gourmet Burger Kitchen. Also Ed's Diner does surprisingly good burgers. However for a really classy burger you are better going to a real restaurant that happens to serve burgers. Two I can recommend are the Wolseley in Piccadilly, where the burgers are made from high grade meat and are nicely cooked and, even better, Tom's Kitchen (27 Cale Street, Chelsea). This new restaurant is a delight in general, but I was very impressed by the burger I had there, with very fresh accompaniments and top quality meat. Of course if you go to a proper restaiurant like this you will pay more than in a fast food chain, but you get what you pay for. .For a full review of Tom's Kitchen see my web site below.

I just got back from a two week trip to London, and I couldn't find a decent one. I ordered one from a pub in Westminster, but it was overcooked and just didn't have any flavor. (Like most English food, dull and bland. The English can't make good barbeque/mesquite sauce.) The best place to get a burger is America. Sad truth.
