Delivery dates are always a guess, the pups will come when they decide to -- not when we are ready and waiting.
You can watch for pending labor signs:
Digging, scratching in her bed.
Heavy panting like she is very hot.
Shivering like she is very cold.
Loss of appetite.
Restless, just can't get comfortable.

She may have one or all of the above symptoms, they usually start within 6 to 12 hours of the babies being born. There can be anywhere from 15 min up to 2 hours between the birth of each puppy. If she is pushing (having HARD contractions) for over 3 hours, with no puppy, there is a problem GO TO THE VET.

I would check with my vet now to find out who will be on call after normal hours, you do not want to be trying to find a vet after she is in labor.

As an earlier responder said, you will want to have her a quite spot prepared for her to birth in. There will be quite a big mess so plastic containers make wonderful beds (depending on the size of your dog)

I often use the bottom half of my carrier and line it with paper, it is easy for her to rip and tear the paper, she will be in pain so the ability to tear the paper helps her relieve some of the tension. Plastic also makes it much easier to clean, just throw all the old papers in the trash and clorox the carrier bottom.

You may want to supervise your child the first few times he/she is around the dog, it is very normal for mom to become very protective of her new babies. So be sure you are there to let mom know your child is not going to hurt the new babies.

What you want is a. a mentor (someone who has whelped a b itch earlier) and b. a vet. I even ought to invite why you've left it to the instantaneous she's by way of whelp earlier finding out?! in spite of the indisputable fact that, for a initiate, deep breath! This b itch likely is conventional with far extra about what to do, from instinct, and with somewhat of luck, provided it is going to plot, she'll do all of it without you having to be on the instantaneous in contact. you want to have her in her whelping field (eliminate the pillow - it may get moved, and smother a newborn puppy) and shop a quiet eye on her. do not go away her on her own (as in move out!). once solid contractions have all started, do not enable her move on straining for much previous one hour without seeing the first puppy born. And it truly is suited, in many situations speaking, for each delivery, even although that she ought to take a 'relax' halfway with the help of. If she's straining not difficulty-free for more advantageous than an hour, with any puppy, you want to get her to the vet. The worst ingredient that ought to take position is a puppy can get stuck. Assuming you do not comprehend the sire - how massive he became? - this can be a real danger. Did you've her scanned? if so, this could have informed you approaches massive the heads appeared, on the time, in words of the size of this b itch. and regularly breach (rear first) births must be confusing and also you may, gently, favor to help. at the same time as she starts contractions, i ought to telephone your vet to alert them so in case you do want veterinary help, they are going to be waiting. yet in case you'll discover someone with whelping experience (or who has even had a toddler themselves!), it ought to help you no end.

Expect it today, so make a nice area for her to deliver. Once in labor...she might pick her own quiet spot anyway and so the best thing to do is make the area she chooses more comfortable for her.

I would make sure she has a prepared area for the puppies and her (when my dog had puppies, we kept them all in a HUGE wire crate, for safety reasons).
We didn't put the dog in there, until the puppies were born though.
