You know what, I don't know why some women get mad at that, I figure that when someone calls me ma'am, they were raised properly with respect for other people. So don't let their insecurities get you down :) Next time just apologize and call her Miss :)

It depends on the age of the woman. If you are calling somebody under 40 mam even though you are being respectful women think you are calling them old, now if they are over 40 and they get mad they just have to face the fact that they're getting old

You know...I am 37 and look very young...when i take my 15 year old to the park for baseball people even think i am my son's older sister, but on the flip flop side,in a number of occasions, when i go shopping or whatever...i have been called "mam", I have never felt offended by it...to me it is just a reality check..."wow, i am getting older, when a teenager calls me mam" I embrace it, it is part of life...we are ALL going to get there...aging, sickness, death, unfortunately is a part of life and you have to take it with all the good
If she felt offended..Hmmmm? I would say she is feeling insecure and very unhappy with herself...she is in a state of denial. You are doing the right thing...being respectful to older people. Keep it up.

Yeah, if a boyfriend gave the impression to be attempting to harm my emotions on purpose, quite with the aid of insulting something i'm unable to do a difficulty approximately, i could be disillusioned, tho probably greater harm than mad or indignant. So, did you tell him the way it made you experience? try not judging that he acted like a jerk, yet provide him a raffle to redeem himself. Like - "you recognize, once you pronounced ___________ it somewhat did harm my emotions. i could by no ability say something like that to you". See if he grants an apology. it's going to artwork greater advantageous than an attack or than appearing mad as you particularly are greater harm than mad - are not you? tell the certainty. And if he's the style who does this usually, it somewhat is somewhat helpful to contemplate if he's somebody you particularly need to spend lots time with. If not, it somewhat is somewhat helpful to forgive him this one little transgression. all of us are somewhat rude now and then.

it is synonomous with calling them an old lady. women that dont like it are trying to deny the fact that they are that much older than you.

Maybe because if you spelled it wrong, you probably pronounced it wrong. Also, it makes them feel maiden like.
