Religion - peace and Love!!!?!!! Don't make me laugh - religion is the reason for all these wars - Islam vs Christianity. I am an atheist - I find it fascinating the different religions and what they believe in - it makes me think alot. However it is the religious people who get me angry not the religion itself. If people followed their religion correctly the world would be a perfect place - it obviously isn't.
My opinion!

I do get angry when people refuse to look at things with in a sensible way. I believe that an atheists duty is to promote the development of our species while hopefully improving our quality of life, and so it is inevitable that when faced with fools who either can not or will not accept the truth and hinder our species progress, we will become angry with them.
It is important to note that when posting a question on evolution/creationism or god/gods, many of the christians spout tracts from the bible that have nothing at all to do with the question or complain that atheists are intollerant rather than giving an inteligent answer about thier beliefs.

I'm angry that according to a recent Gallup poll, only 45 percent of Americans would vote for an atheist for President. I'm angry that atheist conventions have to have extra security, including hand-held metal detectors and bag searches, because of fatwas and death threats. I'm angry that atheist soldiers -- in the U.S. armed forces -- have had prayer ceremonies pressured on them and atheist meetings broken up by Christian superior officers, in direct violation of the First Amendment. I'm angry that evangelical Christian groups are being given exclusive access to proselytize on military bases -- again in the U.S. armed forces, again in direct violation of the First Amendment. I'm angry that atheist soldiers who are complaining about this are being harassed and are even getting death threats from Christian soldiers and superior officers -- yet again, in the U.S. armed forces. And I'm angry that Christians still say smug, sanctimonious things like, "there are no atheists in foxholes." You know why you're not seeing atheists in foxholes? Because believers are threatening to shoot them if they come out.

The reason atheists get angry when talking about God is because they are on very shaky ground, and deep down they know it.
Don't forget it is atheists who think that MATTER created life, and the information for life, and the DNA code to carry infomation, in some primordial soup.
They also believe in the 'singularity' of the 'Big Bang', that says that, once upon a time there was nothing, then nothing exploded and became everything. (apparently a 'singularity' is a one-off event in which the laws of science did not apply, INCREDIBLE!)
So the MATERIAL UNIVERSE is the god of atheists, they worship and adore and pay endless homage to its amazing, magical powers. In fact they are the very same powers that religions attribute to a supernatural, intelligent Creator.
They get angry because they know those who believe in God are actually presenting a much more credible rival to their god 'matter'.
For example, a supernatural God, as the creator of natural law, is not bound by it. Whereas, in contrast, the atheist's god 'matter' is entirely subject to and bound by natural law, so how can they possibly hope to explain such miraculous events as the creation of life and the origin of the universe. You've guessed it, they can't, but they can never admit this, so they pretend they don't believe in miracles, while actually presenting naturalistic explanations which defy the laws of nature and therefore could only take place as a magical or miraculous event.

"I don't get angry, but I am in awe at the fact that religious folk tend to walk so blindly through life, believing what they are told by something that doesn't exist."
"nope... I just really hate people telling me how much better my life would be if I accepted JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEsus into it, when my life doesn't really suck in the first place."
2 great answers.
I'm not angry, just incredulous at how seemingly intelligent people can be so ..... wierd! Actually believing that stuff, I simply can not get my head round how anyone can seriously believe it, and then spout on about it, even to the extent of posting a question on answers like 'Do you know how much God loves you?'. I mean seriously.... It's not a joke, people actually mean and believe this stuff.....
I tell you, I think all religious people are a bit bonkers in the nut!

I can be perceived as angry over the computer, as people have no idea if I'm being sarcastic, serious, happy, sad, etc.
As far as real life, if anyone says I'm angry, they are sadly mistaken. The only time I ever get angry is when the person has offended me by calling me names, or talked about my children.
More often than not, I'm laughing on the inside and out at the ridiculousness of their accusations and knowledge, or lack thereof.

People lately have been taking other not believing (or not believing) a little to personal. As a result, anger and even hate is displayed against those who are in contrast to their beliefs. This country was founded with freedom of religion in mind. Do bad that doesn't apply if you don't like someone else's religion. I guess it boils down to a loss of mutual respect for all man kind and another individuals right to believe what they want to.

I certainly am not mad, and I can have an intelligent, calm, conversation with someone who does believe in God. Just like there are crazy Chrisitans there are crazy atheists who think its their way or the highway and people that don;t believe what they do are wrong and stupid.... but not all of us are like that. Your friend should no better not to categorize all atheist by a couple bad experiences...

She might get that impression because only the ones who feel really strongly about it and want to 'convert' her talk about it to her. Most of us aren't interested enough to get into discussions.
It's like the opinion you might get of Christians if you assumed they were all like the 'doorsteppers' justbecause those are the only ones bothering to talk to you about it. Of course, there are zillions of other Chrisians who don't talk to you about it all the time. Same thing, there are zillions of atheists who never mention religion.
Only the extremists, christian or atheist, go and try to convert other people. So they are only probably 5% of all Christians or atheists.

I think that if anything makes atheists angry, it the god botherers using the bible as a form of evidence to convince the atheists of the existence of god... and when the atheists explain that the bible is not evidence, they are battered with a tirade of gospels, accusations of being in league with the devil and that they understand nothing... which is incorrect... most atheists have an understanding of god and belief... and choose not to believe... just that the god botherers can't understand that.. and feel an unrequited need to save the atheists souls...
