Someone posted a question, "Why are you Christian", so I decided that it would only be fair to let the non-Christians speak. So go ahead!!!

I have seen christianity mislead people. I've seen large amounts of christians support torture and murder, I've seen vast numbers of christians support war and killing, I've seen christians that support executions like the one that killed Jesus, I've seen christians that have thrown their own children onto the street, homeless because they were born gay, to be raped and abused by criminals. I've seen christians mothers disown their daughters for marrying outside the faith. I've seen many high-up christians cover up the rape and abuse of children, And now there is a massive wave of moral sickness moving through the US christian community with the idea of the "undeserving poor". Yes, now millions of american christians are promoting this corrupted ideal in order to escape from Jesus's most fundamental commandment of loving one another and caring for the poor. Yet millions of christians in the US promote the idea that the poor take advantage of the rest of us, that they do not deserve our help, and that they are lazy.

From where I stand, the majority of modern christians resembe the pharasees of the bible more than righteous men and women.

I am wiccan becuase I do not agree with everything christians belive in. I belive in the fact that nature has powers that we can tap, and I also belive that Jesus was real at one ponit in time. I have read the bible a couple times, and I agree with what Jesus said. However, I consider him a philosopher, not the son of god. I think that all the stuff about not going to heaven becuase you did not accept Jesus into your heart is crap too. I could go on for a long time, however, I would like to answer other questions too

CHRISTIAN, n.
One who believes that the New Testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor. One who follows the teachings of Christ in so far as they are not inconsistent with a life of sin.

Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for atheism ever conceived. – Isaac Asimov

…"As Bill Hicks said, "Eternal torment awaits all who refuse to believe in God's infinite love!"…

"I am now convinced that children should not be subjected to the frightfulness of the Christian religion.... If the concept of a father who plots to have his own son put to death is presented to children as beautiful and as worthy of society's admiration, what types of human behavior can be presented to them as reprehensible?"
Ruth Hurmence Green

"For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command or faith a dictum... We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state and our education system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us."

I am not christian because God has rejected me. He does not want me to be a part of his kingdom. Before I tried to "find" him, through prayer and blind faith (very difficult for my rational mind). He did not respond; I don't mean respond in the visual or auditory sense, but response in a spiritual or "open my heart" type of thing.

On my knees begging, pleading, defeated...."God please save me"........nothing.

Now I don't even care, after giving it much thought. When asked if I believe in God, my answer is "I don't know". For me its not a question of whether or not god exists, to me that is kinda of irrelevant. But a question of Can I love and accept him..........I can not.

Therefore if God exists I could never love him. In fact at times I hate him. I know that if there is a hell, I will be going there. That still does not deter me. I can never love him.

So, I'm sure you'll get alot of answers dealing with Evolution, Big bang theory, and all kinds of scientific rhethoric. Since i am not a scientist I can not give you such an answer but a spiritual one.

My only hope is that there is no God and the Atheist are right, then I will cease to exist when I die. However I am doubtful and must prepare myself for hell..........I never will be able to.

I was raised Christian, but as I got older it just didn't fit. I can't relate to a motherless/sisterless religion, and Christianity is all about men saving everyone and how women bring them to sin. I also couldn't agree with the concept that we're supposed to put everything in God's hands and let him take care of everything. If you truly love your children, you don't raise them to spend their entire lives totally dependent on you. Successful child-rearing involves the kid growing up and being able to take care of themselves, so an all-loving father who encourages us to let him take care of everything doesn't seem so all-loving to me - more like a control freak who doesn't trust me.

Blessed be!

Because religion in general is derived from the retelling of stories made up as cavemen sat around the fire. Before recording history in writing was possible these stories were passed along from generation to generation verbally and in the endless retelling the stories were altered beyond recognition.

I am a Christian, but I can see the reasons one wouldn't be. I like your question, just for the fact you are letting others get a voice.

Because I follow another religion and deities. Because I am a polytheist and believe in reincarnation. Because I don't believe in the concepts of absolute positive or absolute negative. Because I don't believe that any deity is all-powerful or all-knowing. Because I don't believe in sin, the bible, the Christian heaven or hell. Because I don't believe in proselytizing or that there is only one "right" deity to worship or only one "right" way to worship/believe for everyone.
