How does cost compare to reglaze an existing tub, versus taking out an existing tub and installing a new one?

I had my tub reglazed for $300.

3 years later, it was flaking off around the drain hardware.
1 year after that, I had to remodel my bathroom due to mold, and had to rip out and reinstall a new tub. It was NOT easy, as the old one was cast iron, and we had to break it to get it out. The new one is fiberglass, looks nice, but nothing feels as solid as an iron tub. We couldn't get a new iron tub, as it wouldn't fit through the door.

I am not sure I would reglaze again - the finish was never as shiny as an original finish. We had to use gentle cleaners so we wouldn't damage the glaze and could no longer give our dogs baths in the tub, astheir nails would ruin the glaze. Also, we have no window in our bathroom, and the process of glazing requires a severe sand blast to prepare the surface - and this meant it had to be ventilated through the house!!

We ended up having to replace the tub anyhow, but there was no way we could sell our house with a chipped glaze on the tub, we would have had to have it redone. it was a dirty project, and though cheaper than a new tub, the down time was about the same, and it didn't last very long.
