Allergics can usually be handled, by purchasing a better quality food, such as Blue Buffalo (Their Hairball formula works wonders for UTIs). It is holistic.

I hate to tell you that Special Kitty is about the worst food you can feed. No food can totally eliminate the possibility of urinary tract infection. Some cats have what is called FLUTED. Feline lower urinary tract disease. Which isn't an infection but does cause irritation to the urinary tract. Cats with this are usually kept on a prescription diet called C/D. It helps acidify the urine and to decrease the chances that crystals will form. It is also a high quality food and the skin problems may improve also. If she doesn't necessarily need a special food for UTI's (no history of them) then you may want to try the prescription diets that will address allergies. Your vet will be able to help you with that. If you don't want do that then there are a lot of foods out there that may help. Go to Naturapet.com and check it out.

My baby kitty has to be on a food for a bacteria found in her stool AND she has had urinary tract problems. My vet and I went round and round b/c he wanted to change her to the food for the bacteria and I wanted to keep her on the UT food. So what I did was buy a 14lb bag of the food he insisted on and a 5lb bag of the UT food, bought an air tight container and mixed the two with a measuring cup (3 cups of this, 1 cup of that and stirred). This was back in October and she is doing very well now. But you should probably buy the food from the vet if your cat has a potentially serious problem. You don't want to take any chances.
Good luck to you and your kitties!

Without knowing what the cat is allergic to, it's hard to recommend a specific food. And, its very difficult to find out exactly what the cat is allergic to. My best advice is to pick a high-quality food with a limited list of ingredients; the fewer ingredients there are, the less likely she is to be allergic. I recommend getting as high a protein content as possible (I like the Innova Evo line b/c it has no grains--and grains are a big source of food allergies in cats). Vets sell prescription allergy foods, but these aren't the best quality; corn or corn meal is often the first ingredient, not good for potential allergy cases, IMHO (and I worked for a vet for several years).

Purina One has food for the urinary tract, as I use this myself. Other wise it might be best to see about totally natural foods, like Natural Choice, which don't use artifical ingred. I like these foods but they are not cheap, however which is better for the cat.

Ask your vet. Most vet offices sell cat food and the vet would be able to recomend what is best for your cat.

Ask your vet, he/she should be able to recommend a food that does both. You could always mix the foods or alternate days of serving specific foods.
