First of all you say the Army has more jobs, but ask yourself "Does the number of jobs available matter as long as I get the job I want?" I remember many years ago an Army recruiter telling me the Army had more aircraft than the Air Force and more ships than the Navy lol. Even if true it would be irrelevant. Secondly , I know of three jobs the Marine Corps has that receives airborne training. Parachute rigger, Force Recon, and ANGLICO. granted if you want airborne, you have a better chance of getting it in the Army. Is that what you want? Otherwise, thats also irrelevant. Now as far as funding and equipment goes, historically Marines have had less. We used to have a saying "We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we can do anything with nothing." Most of the stuff we used to get was second hand Army. I don't think that's the case today, but the Marines certainly aren't better funded. Rest assured you would be adequately equipped for whatever job you have. Yes, Marines get better and tougher training in boot camp. Is it worth it? Only you can decide. I can tell you this, the Marines have an esprit de corps unlike no other. Marines take care of their own. There are no harder fighters in the world. Are there better trained fighters in the world? You betya. Take for example U.S. Army Special Forces. So ok, Army basic training isn't as intense, but they follow that with AIT, jump school, Ranger school, then intensive study of the individuals own specialty. That training takes a long time. And they are fine troops. You can get that kind of training in the Corps but there are a lot less openings and it's highly competitive. I can't comment much on the quality of life. With the exception of embassy Marines, there are far more duty stations in the Army than in the Corps. I believe the Army may have private dorms in most stateside duty stations where as Marines, at least when I was in live in an open squadbay. Of course much of this could have changed. As I've said before when people ask questions along the lines of which is the best "That point is moot". All you have to do is give it everything you've got in training and take advantage of every opportunity to improve your knowledge and skills and you will never have to feel second best. The choice is yours. Best of luck to you. Semper Fi

Let me guess: you're in a different branch, and this is all just a way for you to make fun of the Army so you can feel like your branch is superior.

Buddy, my husband and I lived on a Marine base for 4 years and an Air Force base for 9 months. Both bases had service-people from three or four different branches (not too many from the Army, but then they had their own bases).

The problem wasn't that one branch was dumber than another. The problem was that the young enlisted guys were fresh out of high school, away from Mom for the first time, and didn't know how to behave like civilized human beings. They thought they lived in a frat house. By the time they reached NCO or Staff NCO level, they were usually better adjusted and able to act like responsible adults instead of idiots. This was true of the servicemen all branches we encountered.

Those who join the armed services are not dumb. However, they may be disadvantaged.
Why don't you see politicians' kids joining the army? Because they're all hiding in ivy league colleges, protected from the carnage of war. Same with rich kids from all walks of life.
Those who are unable to go to college, or don't work hard enough to stay in college, unfortunately get 'stuck in Iraq'.
That doesn't mean everyone in the military service is dumb - they just don't have the 'breaks' that rich kids have. Perhaps they have very little money, limited educational opportunities, or insufficient motivation to aspire to other things (such as being a corrupt politician, lawyer, or CEO).
The men and women of our military forces (excluding, of course, most of the generals and commanders) are among the bravest, brightest, most patriotic people in America. Too bad there's not a draft requiring ALL young people (regardless of social status, influence, power or wealth) to serve their country for two years after high school. It would be a more equal playing field, and maybe some of those "rich kids" would know what it's like to sacrifice their lives for the good of their country. -RKO-

I was army and have an IQ of 135. I would suspect that you haven't ever talked with many military people, they are by and large much more well read and thoughtful than your average college freshman. If you are a marine looking to stir things up I feel genuinely sorry for you. I respect the Marine Corps but individual Marines seem to be slightly damaged (from the ones I have met)

not all of the persons joining the service are (dumb). there is a sense of service to ones country which i believe is the most prevelant reason. however, many other reasons do exist, such as poor persons who have no means of support, and little education, and those who wish to take advantage of the training and schooling advantages. maybe you should try it, you might learn something, especially something about people and how all of us exist together in a society made up of all ilks and manorisms. and last but not least: it makes a man learn dedication, responsibilty, and duty to others and coun try.

I do not agree with this question! I think that all Military Groups need respect! There maybe some members that are very rude and have criminal intention, but for a most part they are putting their lives on the line for us! They are fighting just as hard!

The military actually has a higher average education level than the general population. Check it out.

How about 'the BRAVEST of people join the military to serve our country in time of need while some of us praise them and others hide behind the curtains'.
