December 7th was the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. It's possible that the planned ceremonies and other such remembrances are what is bringing people together on that date. Many, many people were killed, ships sunk, planes bombed, etc. It was quite a terrible time.
It would make a good historic study for you if you are interested. Then you could visit those sites when you got to go there.

Pearl Harbor day week is a major Japanese holiday timeperiod. I happened to visit Honolulu several years ago and there were millions of Japanese folks in town. It happened to be that week.

Probably not a specific event, just the busy season for them because people from the states want to go where it's warm for the holiday season since its cold where they live. Ask a hotel rep when you call.
