There has been a lot of this in the USA. They are usually very manipulative people into the control aspect for the money.
"Brainwashing", btw, bespeaks of near-torture methods, not just confusing, manipulative, religious double-speak. Anybody doing THIS, should go to jail.

i think the people are weak minded and open to anything. they fall for the wrong type of people. people need to have stronger personalities and not be so easily influenced. don't take everything as gospel. do some personal research and make an informed decision. ask true friends for advice.
