There are so many exercises to do for your overall fitness. The waist however must be attacked from several angles. The love handles are probably what your worried about, (just a guess) Your traditional trunk twists and side bends are good, but have you considered over the head presses with light weight? Yes I said presses. When standing erect your entire trunk area can be worked by doing overhead presses. Light weight and alot of reps are the key.

There are some really good web sites that can help you not only loose weight but get you in great shape. Here are some I recommend. www.menshealth.com, www.absdiet.com (or buy the book), www.mensfitness.com. These sites can help you attack the trouble areas that you have, as well as, give great eating tips and give you an overall workout routine that you can do at home without going to the gym.

Good Luck.

Sit ups alone will not do much for you. In order to get results you really need to work your whole body. Try jogging or biking for cardio. You can start with walking as well. If you chose walking you can buy wrist and ankle weights. They are not expensive but they are effective. For optimal results in any program you need cardio and weight training. Keep doing your sit ups along with crunches and bicycle crunches. Also try keep a food diary. In order to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you are taking in. The diary really helps keep that in check. Sometimes we really do not realize how much we are exactly consuming. Also try to consume a higher amount of protein that carbs. It will really cut down on belly fat.

Your problem needs to be controlled in the kitchen before you hit the gym. Control your diet and stop eating so much food.
Practice self-restraint by not eating after your plate is clean. Get up from the table. Get exercise when you feel hungry, instead of eating and sitting down to watch the telly.
