It isn't exactly rocket science...
Sure, some people have faith in it and some don't but I think EVERYONE understands it.

No, I do understand it. In the same way I understand a mathematic equation, or science homework. I do not BELIEVE in it, but that is a different matter. I am talking about literal understanding.

'Then why are you here?' - because there are other religions in this world than those centred around the Bible, and other religious questions than those about it...

Actually, I think it would be quite difficult to "understand" the Bible as each concept that is presented is contradicted by another. It's hard to understand a book that has no clear message.

I think that why many people don't understand the bible, is because, how many people have actually read the entire bible? Lots of people only know the more popular of verses that they learned in church, or bible school, or where ever else...and based on only those veses they make their conclusions. But I can tell you right now that the bible is made and was meant to be understood as a whole, not just parts here and there. It is like a puzzle, it will take all the peices (not just a few), to understand the whole picture...people would have a harder time finding contradictions if they saw the whole thing. The bible is full of so much....and it takes a LONG time to totally grasp the true message that the bible represents....it's a growing process that will take time and commitment if one is to truly understand a book known to be inspired by God him self ages before our own time.

The Bible consist of 66 books that cover over 1500 years of different societies and cultures. It runs over 3.6 million words. There are parts of it that are very clear, and parts that are very obscure (such as what does Song of Solomon mean when it says "If your sister is a door, we will encase her in cedar")????

A read through of the Bible will give an intelligent person a good understand of what it says. Yet there is so much depth to it, that after 50+ years, I am still feeling like I am just scratching the surface. Can anyone understand it, yes. Can anyone get ALL the meaning and detail, no.

I like what Mark Twain had to say about the Bible. "It's not the parts I don't understand that worry me, it's the parts I do."

There are people that have never read the Bible (yet).
There are people that have 'read' the Bible, but do not believe it.
There are people that see 'other believers' have not implemented 'the basics', so they do not believe the believers.
There are people that have 'read' the Bible, but have not implemented what it says. (Especially here in the USA now).
Because they have not implemented even the 'basics' (here in the USA) presently, many 'believers' may not understand why 'non-believers' do not obey more fully God's word.

May you receive a pleasant surprise today, Glory to God.
Peace Be With You.

I think everyone understands portions of it, literally, but to understand it Spiritually, knowing the hidden truths, you must have the presence of the Holy Spirit within you to reveal these hidden truths to you.
The Word is alive. You can read a passage one day and understand, but then perhaps tomorrow you read the same passage and an entirely new meaning becomes clear to you.

What is to understand about a novel full of parables? There is no scientific proof that Jesus, or Yahweh ever existed. Just like you said, the bible is based on faith, not truth.

After God revealed Himself to me, it was much easier to understand the Bible....so those who have not had the eyes of their heart opened quite possibly are not able to understand.

Then why are you here?
And No..Not every one understands it.

1Cr 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned.
