Look People, it is just a joke! Yes, I have spent this amount but, I really dont mind. I knew there would be expences prior to my becoming a breeder doing it properly. Lighten up!!!!!Happy Holiday Season! Merry Christmas! God Bless you all and your dogs!

This is funny. No but if you find one let us know how. The IRS gets us every year and they keep taking away things we used to be able to claim. Bout time we could claim our pets lolol
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too.

Wow. That's a good question. I would be inclined to think no. Unless maybe you have aid dogs, or (obviously) run a K-9 business, but your CPA should have been able to tell you that.

I joked around with my accountant last year about my pet expenses (begged him to find a way as I had spent around $5000 on my two) and he told me there was no way to write them off. Mine are just simple pets though.

I'd be interested to hear the other answers. Might want to post this question under the finance section too and maybe you'll get some answers from accountants.

AS it is a joke Ha Ha. But if your dogs are used as guard dogs for your business you can take off part of the expenses on your taxes and cpa's are not the best in doing taxes. Find a goo d tax person for that

My boss was able to write his dog off under "security," like for the home. I have no clue if this is shady, but I drove with him to the CPA's, and no joke - - he got a security deduction for his home because of his pup.

Maybe get Pet's Best insurance for those vet bills? ;) I though my dog was expensive!!

You can't. Not unless you want to go to jail. LOL.

Dogs are not considered to be 'necessities' nor 'dependents' in life. They are pets, which are luxuries....meaning you don't have to have them if you find them costing you too much money. And dogs don't understand Christmas...so there is no NEED to get them Christmas presents, etc. (although most of us do it because we *want* to.) If you think you are spending too much money, investigate pet health insurance for them. It can save you a lot of $. Feeding them properly can cut back on veterinary costs tremendously (the most common problems we see on a daily basis are related to improper feeding.) And cut back on toys. The best dog toys are FREE....

The only times I have heard of anyone successfully claiming their dog's expenses on their taxes are when the dog is a professionally-trained guard/security dog for a business, or a seeing-eye dog, etc.....not a pet.

Your CPA could have counseled you on what it would require. Basically if you work with your dogs - say in Search and Rescue, therapy work, or other businesses that would involve the use of your dogs as part of your main income.

I have thought this too.

I can't figure out how the illegal aliens can get ids to work I want a ss# for a couple of the dogs. I got one I bet I could get her on disability too and she can pay for her own dog food.

If you can issue the dog a social security number, then the answer is yes. Anyone with a ss# is liable to pay taxes also.
