It is a sign of warning. Do you care for your cat or any living being lately? Having death dream could symbolize a reminder of some sort. Cat could symbolize people or things you care for but you may have neglected lately. That is why your subconscious mind tried to find one thing to symbolize and try to tell you that you should care of things you seldom care for more.

It's a fear. People dream of things that they fear and of family members they love, also of things they don't want to happen and do want to happen. I dreamed that my horse got hit by a bunch of police cars cause she got loose.... it's a scary thing. Give your cat a bit more attention =)
