I now want to have my hair chemically straightened and the hairdresser says a BIG no! How long will this henna remain in my hair before it is safe to move onto other chemical products?

It really depends on what kind of henna you used. If you used pure, body art quality henna, then you should be able to do any kind of chemical process over it with no problem (I've put chemical hair dye over henna several times, with no problems).

If it was a compound henna (the kind commercially available... contains some mystery ingredients), you've got to wait until it grows out.

No henna that is pure body art quality does not ever turn green. It can turn green if you use indigo (mislabelled as black henna) and you have light colored hair. You must make sure you are using pure products first. You should have absolutely no problem getting your hair straightened as long as the henna you have used is of pure quality and contains no additives. Otherwise be patient and let it grow out.

Henna is only one natural plant and no one plant can dye two different colors, it doesn't make any sense (for those who don't know what henna is).

I hope this helps.

Henna is the worst thing. It does not come out and it turns green after a while. The only alternative is to let your hair grow.
